Engaging Appreciative Inquiry in Exploring Accessibility Needs among Vulnerable Community in Kuala Lumpur Neighbourhood

Neighborhood accessibility affects a wider range of people, especially the vulnerable groups. The disablement built environment imposes limitation for groups to reach facilities and services independently. can only be effective when it is interconnected seamless. Research in past focuses on problem base approach which had little success eliciting responses from stakeholders sustainable change their environment. This research investigates experience through social process meaning-making based positive constructive interactions. qualitative using focus group discussion (FGD) employs an appreciative inquiry (AI) collect decode data four stages; discovery, dream, design, destiny. FGD involved including communities; elderly, pregnant women, mothers with toddlers, persons disabilities (PwD), academicians NGOs. Findings revealed collective priorities related improvements external internal living environment, need enforce national disability law, actualisation blueprint desired future To create accessible neighbourhood Kuala Lumpur, study demonstrated how Appreciative Inquiry generates real community needs voices those rights holistically.
